What Which? Trusted Traders is
Which? is the UK consumer organisation best known for its independent product testing. Which? Trusted Traders is its scheme for endorsing local businesses, and every trader on it has passed an assessment set by Which?’s trading standards professionals. Endorsed businesses can show the Endorsed by Which? mark. Using the mark without being endorsed is a false claim, and Which? publishes how to report one.
Our profile lists us under boiler, central heating and gas engineers, gas installers and plumbers, covering the work we do every day: boiler installations, servicing and repairs, radiators and central heating, gas safety checks and general plumbing.
How Which? assessed us
Before endorsing a business, Which? looks at four things:
- Financial health. A credit report on the business, so you are not paying a deposit to a firm about to fold.
- What customers say. Which? contacts a selection of customers from recent jobs and takes up references.
- How the business is run. It examines business and admin procedures to check that customers’ interests are built in.
- An assessment interview. Face to face or by video call, with a Which? trading standards professional.
Not every business that applies gets through. Passing does not buy a place either: the trader also has to agree to the Code of Conduct and pay a membership fee, and endorsed traders are reassessed on an ongoing basis.
One honest caveat. Which? does not visit jobs to inspect the workmanship. The technical side is covered by our Gas Safe registration, and by the training that comes with being Worcester Bosch Accredited Partners.
What the Code of Conduct means for you
The Code is the part you will notice as a customer. Among other things, it requires a Which? Trusted Trader to:
- Quote in writing or by email, with the total price including VAT, a breakdown of costs, and when any deposit or staged payment is due.
- Give you a revised quote before doing extra work, rather than adding it to the bill afterwards.
- Not take full payment until the work has been completed satisfactorily, unless your payment is protected.
- Refund a deposit within 28 days if the job is cancelled within your cancellation period or is not started within a reasonable time, and protect any deposit over £500.
- Hold public liability insurance.
- Never offer you anything in return for a review, or pressure you to change one.
None of that feels like a burden to us, because it is how we already like to work: a clear written quote before we start, and straight advice on whether a repair or a replacement makes more sense.
If something goes wrong
Nobody wants to need this part, but it is where a scheme proves its worth. Under the Code, a complaint has to be acknowledged within 7 days, with a course of action offered within 28 days and any agreed fix completed within eight weeks. You will not be told to chase a manufacturer or a subcontractor yourself to get it sorted.
Our own complaints procedure sets out how we handle it, and we aim to acknowledge a complaint within 5 working days, inside the Code’s limit. If we still cannot agree, you can take it to the independent, not-for-profit dispute resolution service Which? provides for the scheme, at no cost to you.
What our customers say on Which?
Every review on a Which? Trusted Traders profile is moderated, and Which? confirms the reviewer is a genuine customer before publishing it. As of October 2026 our profile shows an average of 4.8 out of 5 across 16 reviews, with 94% of reviewers saying they would recommend us. You may see some reviews mention J V Plumbing: that is our registered company name, J V Plumbing & Heating Limited.
Which? is not the only place to see what customers think. We have over 350 five-star reviews on Google, and you can read them on our customer reviews page.
